Slow Gifting - Love & Lee

After many many months of hard work Love & Lee was launched in July. Managing Director Eve is an inspiration and it was hard to decide whether to showcase her brand in a slow gifting article or an Inspiring Women interview! Slow Gifting won out (this time! Perhaps an interview to come?!?) for all of the research, time and love that Eve has put into developing not only beautiful products (the perfect gifts for new bubs and their older siblings!), but products that are ethical and environmentally responsible.

Meet Love and Lee
Tell us about yourself and how Love & Lee began.

I’m a mum of 2 beautiful little girls and a wife, and now the founder of Love & Lee.

My professional background is in HR and project management, I loved my work but never felt 100% challenged in my career.

Then the opportunity to start thinking of Love & Lee came up when I resigned from my job after the birth of our 2nd daughter – the seedling for Love & Lee was planted (Sept 2017).

Building a brand from literally nothing but an idea doesn’t happen overnight though and I also had my own personal struggles at that time, but I feel so very blessed to have this opportunity.

I wanted to create a brand of beautiful baby products and gifts which were ethically and responsibly made.

Every part of Love & Lee has been thought out, I think while I’m cooking, while I’m driving, while I’m showering, sometimes I have to remind myself to stop.

The Love & Lee brand and what is stands for is very important to me and I know it is important to our customers.

Love & Lee is not the cheapest brand around but I’ve tried very hard to not make it the most expensive either. I want everyone to have access to beautifully created products which are good for baby, good for family, good quality and design and when you buy Love & Lee you know that everyone along the supply chain is a winner.

Can you tell us more about your production processes?

Finding the right contacts for ethical, social and environmental certified (GOTS, Oeko-Tex and Sedex compliant) small manufacturers was not an easy task.

It’s like going on many bad dates. It took over 6 months of searching, talking, networking and hustling my backside off and it paid off. Eventually I discovered the how, the where, the why and the who.

I am now very lucky to work with and support some amazing small businesses overseas who carry the organic and ethical certifications which I wanted for Love & Lee and for our customers.

Love & Lee is Oeko-Tex certified meaning no nasty chemicals used in the manufacturing of our bamboo products.

We are also Sedex compliant – meaning our small local manufacturer in China is ethically and environmentally responsible. Along our entire supply chain our workers are paid fairly, provided with benefits and a safe and healthy work environment.

Love & Lee is 100% plastic free, you heard it – no polyesters, no plastic packaging, nada – I want to be part of the solution, not the problem.

Moving forward my aim for Love & Lee is to create a carbon positive business – I’m so excited about this as it is a direct action we can take to make our world a better, cleaner and more sustainable place.

If you check out our packaging concepts you will see our packaging turns into a beautiful little animal. I want to build a brand which is innovative and uses ideas to create more beautiful products which are not harmful for our environment. Why not? It’s so much more fun and rewarding!

As an Organically GOTS certified business we provide growth opportunities for our organic cotton farmers in India – in turn supporting the biodynamics of our earth.

We have big plans to come for supporting charities for our women, our environment and our mothers.

Love & Lee launched 3 weeks ago and with support it will take off! The greatest thing anyone can do for any small business is just to share it, share the love. When you buy from a small business a real life person does a happy dance – honest. We all have the power to make each other successful.

It’s a small and beautiful world.

Xx Eve
