It has been just over a year since Indigo Bay launched! How quickly the time has gone by and what an amazing year it has been with ups and downs and so much learned.
I thought it was the perfect time to have an Indigo Bay interview and share a little bit about us (that's the brand and me 😆).
Your Brand
Tell us about Indigo Bay – what is it about and how did it begin?
Indigo Bay is about creating memories and creating connections. It's about enjoying life and about giving joy. It is about supporting women - makers, creators, designers, and everyday women.
It all started while I was on maternity leave with my youngest daughter. I wanted to be able to stay home with my girls and not go back to the daily 9-5.
What did you do before starting Indigo Bay?
I travelled a lot when I was younger, living and working overseas. We settled in Brisbane to be close to family and I worked in International Education until babies came along.
Is your brand your full-time job or a side hustle?
I'm lucky enough that it is a full-time job!
What is a typical day for you?
I get up and get the kids ready and take them to daycare. Back at home I sit down and write my to-do list (I love lists!) for the day with a coffee and then get stuck into it.
Which part of your brand do you enjoy working on the most?
I absolutely love coming up with product ideas and working to get those into being. I love making, I love stationery and my perfect work day is when I get to create and send my products out to people who love them just as much as I do.
You have 2 children – how do you balance family life with running a business?
Juggling family life can be really hard as most mums will tell you whether they are SAHMs, they go out to work or have their own business.
Daycare is a huge help as it gives me time to totally focus on Indigo Bay during the day and then have family time when the kids come home and on weekends.
Can you tell us what you have in mind for Indigo Bay in the next 12 months?
With COVID I needed to rethink the business and have moved in a bit of a different direction, but I am now doing something that I absolutely love and am so grateful to everything that has led me here.
We have our own branded products - our Memory Makers and 100 Days of.... Notepads and we will be building on these over the coming year.
Your Everyday Life
What do you enjoy doing (outside of your brand!)?
I love making and creating, I op shopping and going out for coffee (and a sneaky sweet treat to go with it).
What are you reading at the moment?
Saving Missy by Beth Morrey
What are you watching at the moment?
Altered Carbon
You live in Noosa and have a day with no responsibilities to do anything you like. What do you do?
I would love to start the day with a walk in the National Park with my family, then head to a cafe for a coffee and a treat (we did some exercise after all!).
I would then love to spend some time curled up in a super comfortable chair getting lost in a really good book.
Dinner out or a picnic would be a lovely end to the day, followed by chilling out watching some Netflix.
Which do you prefer?
Dogs/cats - cats
Camping/staying in a hotel - 1000% staying in a hotel
Home cooking/eating out - depends on the mood!
Watching a movie/reading a book - reading a book
Summer/winter - in Noosa? Definitely winter - it's like summer everywhere else!
Waking up early/staying up late - staying up late
Tea/Coffee - coffee
Sweet/savoury - ummm, both!
Breakfast/no breakfast - no breakfast unless I get to eat almond croissants!
Online shopping/in-store shopping - Both!
What is your happiest memory?
There are so many! I love travelling and have so many happy memories from road trips and time spent overseas. My wedding day is also a big one and the days my girls came along.
And finally, what is the best gift you have ever received?
I've been so lucky to have been gifted amazing things throughout my life, from big to small. The best gift recently, with 2 girls who love getting up before the sun, has been sleep-ins on the weekend!
Check out our Memory Makers here and connect, experience, and enjoy every moment.
