I have to admit that when I first heard the term 'self-care' I was a sceptic. I thought it was yet another buzzword being thrown around on social media. It's selfish, it's just an excuse to eat and drink more and a way to get people to buy more.
But then, stepping away from social media, I stopped and thought about it. What does it really mean? And what it comes down to is this
How do you take care of yourself?
How do you make sure that you are feeling good about yourself - all of you?
Because if you aren't taking care of yourself and feeling good about yourself
1. You feel pretty terrible, and
2. You can't be there fully for the loved ones in your life.
So I started a list of everything self-care. The things I do, the things I try to do, the things I would love to do, and the things I need to do to make sure that I can be me. The happy, healthy, best version of me. The me I want to be.
Then I put it together into a set of cards. I thought that if these are things that help me, I really hope they can help some other women out there who need to start putting themselves first.
No, I don't do everything in our set of cards - who has time for that? No matter who we are and what our choices are in life, we all have one thing in common - we are busy. There just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to get everything done, let alone time to take time out for yourself.
But hopefully, our cards can help you out with that. Even if you just start with 5-10 minutes every day and slowly build up to give yourself more time.
You can choose the cards that work best with your lifestyle, or turn them over so you can't see and choose randomly. Take one a day, one a week, one every 2 weeks, whatever works best for you, so long as you commit to putting that time aside just for you.
