Once upon a time, I used to travel a lot. I took lots of photos (though nowhere near as many as I take now because taking 400 photos of the same thing on film just didn’t work) and collected train tickets, receipts, brochures, coasters, and all sorts of bits and pieces that felt like memories in the making. All of them were tucked into scrapbooks. They're still on my shelf—chunky time capsules filled with so many moments and memories.
Every now and then, I pull one down and flip through its pages. There’s a trip to Bratislava to visit friends (almost exactly 22 years ago—how?!), a letter from my Pop, and a week in Paris during a heatwave with my mum. These pages are more than paper—they’re my little pieces of happy, full of stories from a time when adventure was a big part of my life and spontaneous decisions were made with no second-guessing.

Looking through those scrapbooks doesn’t just make me smile—they remind me what it’s all about. Like one of my favourite cards from our Memory Makers Sweary Self-Love Edition says: get out there and fucking live.
These days, adventures look a little different. Life’s fuller, weekends after long weeks are lazy, and spontaneous getaways aren’t always realistic. But that doesn’t mean the exploring has to stop. It just means we get to rethink what “adventure” looks like.
Life nowadays is more about the mini adventures.
So, what exactly is a mini adventure?
It’s anything that breaks your usual routine and helps you find your pieces of happy. It doesn’t need to involve passports or packed bags—just something different. Something fun. Something that makes you feel that little spark.
Mini adventures are different for everyone, but they may look like:
- A surprise sunset picnic
- Trying a new recipe together
- Creating a time capsule with the kids
- Doing something totally random on a weeknight instead of just collapsing on the couch
- Exploring a local market or museum you’ve been meaning to go to
And if you need a little inspiration our Memory Makers Activity Decks have plenty of ideas. Our Family, Friends, or Couples Edition are full of simple prompts to help you connect, laugh, and make new memories—without needing to plan a big trip or spend a fortune.
Pull a card and let it decide your next mini adventure. Maybe it’s baking something from scratch, building a fort in the lounge room, or having a no-phones dinner with family. Big or small, it’s about mixing things up and finding those feel-good moments in the everyday.
Because really, who wants to settle? We’re here to explore, to laugh until we cry, to live. Each of those little moments add up, they fill the pages in our mental scrapbooks, and if you’re anything like me, in your actual ones too.
That’s my goal right now: less settling, more adventuring. More moments that feel a little bit special, a little bit different, and a lot me.
How about you?
Before I go, I’ll leave you with a quote I love:
"I think the only answer is to live life to the fullest while you can and collect memories like fools collect money. Because in the end, that's all you have – happy memories."
– Sarah Strohmeyer
So here’s your reminder: don’t put it off. Don’t wait for the perfect time. Your next mini adventure is waiting for you—enjoy every minute of it… and maybe even scrapbook it later.
